Nigerian labour laws are not only complex but also continue to evolve. Many Nigerian labour legislations are being amended while some have been repealed and replaced with new ones. Recent case laws (i.e judicial decisions) is also redefining the law of labour relations in Nigeria. The successful HR department acts as an employee champion and change agent, while functioning within the limits of company policies, and guided by regulations in the labour and employment acts. To this end, an understanding of the key components of the Nigerian Labour and Employment Laws, alongside current and emerging developments in business, becomes a starting point for any HR professional to function effectively.
